Butter | 200g, melted |
For the syrup: | |
Water | 1 cup |
Sugar | 1 cup |
Lemon juice | 1 tbsp |
Honey | 1/2 cup |
Cinnamon | 1 tsp |
- Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Butter a baking dish.
- Lay a sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with several more sheets of phyllo, brushing each layer with butter.
- Sprinkle a layer of chopped nuts over the phyllo.
- Continue layering phyllo and nuts, brushing each layer with butter, until all the nuts are used. Finish with a final layer of phyllo on top, brushing generously with butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into small diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
- While the baklava is baking, make the syrup. Combine water, sugar, lemon juice, honey, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
